GRAHAMSVILLE — Fallsburg visited Tri-Valley on Thursday night for a non-league girls basketball contest. Tri-Valley’s dominant start to the season continued as they battled well on both sides of the court en route to a 43-9 victory.

“We liked the result of the game, but not how we got there,” Tri-Valley Coach Jason Closs said. “We have a lot of potential as a team and play hard but still have some work on coming together.”

Despite the score seeming relatively one-sided, the two teams brought forth a tough, physical game on both sides, from the opening tip to the final whistle.

Tri-Valley, behind standout student-athlete Jenna Carmody, opened the game with a 14-2 first quarter. Carmody netted eight of her game-high 19 in the quarter as the Lady Bears were off the the races.

The Bears’ defense was solid throughout the game, keeping the Lady Comets from reaching the double digit mark in the contest, despite their best efforts.

“We got beat tonight,” Fallsburg Coach Michael Ballard said. “Fouls killed us and they controlled the boards and worked their press well against us. We’ll have to be ready for that the next time we play them.”

After Tri-Valley expanded their lead to 29-8 at halftime, the Bears’ offense slowed up a bit in the final two frames. However, despite only scoring 14 points in the second half, they were able to outscore their opponents as they finished the game with a 43-9 victory.

Tri-Valley will be joining Sullivan West and Liberty this weekend for a tournament in Livingston Manor and will look to continue to grow as a squad after moving to 6-1 (1-0) with the win.

“We know what type of team we can be, and that’s what we are working towards every day,” Closs said. “We just have to keep improving on the little things so we can make it to the postseason playing the basketball that we can be playing.”
