MONTICELLO – Village of Monticello Police responded to a 911 report of a two-year-old child in cardiac arrest inside a vehicle located outside of Building #14 of the Sleepy Hollow Apartment Complex at Terri Lane in Monticello on Tuesday, July 16 at 6:43 p.m.

According to the Police Chief of the Village of Monticello Police Lt. Mark Johnstone, Monticello Police Officers, Monticello Firefighters and Catskills Hatzolah EMS attempted to resuscitate the child but were unsuccessful.

The child, reported to have been a 2-to-3 year-old boy in foster care, was declared deceased at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Alan Kesten after he had been left in a hot gray Ford Explorer during the sweltering 90-degree day.

An active investigation is currently underway, with the New York State Police leading the investigation with Monticello Police and Sullivan County District Attorney Brian Conaty’s Office assisting.
