Van Etten Tournament kicks off fall season

Monticello, SW, Eldred and Fallsburg set the tone for the year

ROSCOE –– Fallsburg, Eldred and Sullivan West made their way to Monticello on Thursday to kick off the 2022-23 fall season with the first round of the Robert Van Etten boys soccer tournament. Monticello tagged Sullivan West for five goals in the 5-1 win, while Fallsburg blanked Eldred 12-0. The second round was played Saturday afternoon.

Monticello’s goals were scored by Chase Mcfarland, Nilton Miguel (2) and Eduardo Salinas (2), while Aoleces Jimenez scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs. Senior keeper Will Nearing recorded nine saves in the loss, while Monticello’s Nathan Borko had six saves.

Fallsburg put on a scoring clinic, netting double digit goals in the first round win. Diego Bonilla recorded a hat trick, Olvin Jimenez had four goals and Frank Dubon netted two. Marcos Hernandez, Kevin Padilla and Iker Canales each recorded one goal for Fallsburg. Comets’ keeper Selvin Reyes had one save in the win, while Mason Raymond and Pierce Weyent combined for 14 saves for the Yellowjackets.
