Welcome to the 2023 golf season

Welcome to the 2023 golf season. For the next few months, I will be writing about all things related to golf. We will be including rules of the game, etiquette, tips on putting, chipping, iron play, and of course the driver. I’ll be offering tips on how to take a lesson and playing lessons.

Many of you golfers out there are relatively new to the game. Expectations of how you improve are part of the learning curve. Part of the game is also being prepared body-wise and equipment-wise. We will discuss that too.

For you league players, I will give you tips on strategies so you will be better prepared to win   your matches.  Match play and stroke play are very different.

Club fitting is also an area where your game can improve. 40% of a player’s strokes that shoot 100 are on the putting green. A putting lesson on reading greens and practicing your feel on short and long putts always can help. Players will spend hundreds of dollars on a driver that they hit 12 to 14 times in one round of golf. Putting lessons and the right fit putter will probably pay for itself with improvement. The putter you use is more important than the driver.

Now is a good time to check on your equipment. Look at your grips. Are they slippery or just worn out. Are you missing a certain lofted club that can help you. We have golf professionals in our county who can help you with your equipment. Bobby Menges at the Roscoe Mountain Club, Geoff and Taylor Walsh at Tarry Brae and Lochmor. We can all help you have a great golf season. Looking forward to a great golf season. See you all on the course.
