Yellowjackets find their stingers against Bulldogs

ELDRED — The Yellowjackets, after 2 years of losses, come out on top against Sullivan West and get into the win column after Thursday’s home game. Despite the Bulldog’s most tenacious defense, the victory for the Yellowjackets rings a strong comeback at 4-2.

This rallying turn of events follows a season opening 6-0 loss to Chapel Field on Monday before losing again 4-1 against Chester on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs entered the game at 0-1 after a heartbreaking loss to Seward and are still looking for their first win of the young 2023-24 season.

Sullivan West’s young team showed promise as they scored their first two goals of the season in the non-league matchup against Eldred, but it was Eldred’s four goals that set the tone.

Gil Smyth (2), Cooper Stutz and Sean Whalen scored for Eldred in the win. Eldred’s goalkeeper recorded 13 saves and the Eldred offense managed 19 shots on goal in the win.

“Getting our first win was huge. We have a young team with 11 players, but these young men are working hard each and every day and it showed,” Coach Ryan Stutz said. “We have a good group of young men that want to play, learn and improve.”
