Barbara Jean Ackerley, of Claryville, passed away on April 25, 2022. She was 82.

She was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Ruby C. (Rankin) Hynson, born on July 22, 1939 in Spotsylvania, VA.

Barbara enjoyed a long career at Frost Valley YMCA. In her free time she loved to do jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was a loving companion, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her lifelong companion and soulmate James Bradley Ackerley; children Karen Kerendian (Fouad) of Rock Hill, NY and Jason Ackerley (Elisa) of Westerlo, NY; grandchildren Shahin Gagliano of Florida, Bejan, Matthew and Victoria Kerendian all of Niskayuna, NY and Corrina Ackerley of Westerlo, NY; her sister Sue Lavine (Ted) of Chase Mills, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Elton Hynson and Catherine “Tootsie” Irving.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in Barbara’s name can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550, to the Sullivan County SPCA, P.O. Box 995, Rock Hill, NY 12775 or to a charity of one’s own choice.
