NAPLES — The Catskill Claws were back in action for the fourth event of the season on Sunday as they competed in Ontario County Park in Naples. With favorable weather and trail conditions, the stage was set for an action packed weekend at Gannett Hill.

Both the high school and middle school categories used the same course, which was roughly four miles long and had 450 feet of elevation change per lap.

Grant Brown was the High School points leader for the Claws this weekend. Brown earned 464 points with a 5th place podium finish in the Sophomore Boys category. He put together a speedy time of 1:13:26 after three laps and had a fastest lap time of 23:18. After Sunday’s event, Brown moved to No. 6 in the state for Sophomore Boys with a total of 1757 points after four events.

Aiden Dusenbury-Dalto earned 408 points for the team with a 13th place finish in the Freshman Boys category. Dusenbury-Dalto had a total time of 1:21:53 after three laps with a fastest lap time of 25:32. Dusenbury-Dalto is No. 13 in the state overall with 1539 points after four events in the Freshman Boys category.

Also for the high school team, Tyler Damms earned 396 points for the Claws with a 15th place finish on Sunday. Damms recorded a total time of 1:32:06 after three laps and a fastest time of 27:57. For the season, Damms has earned 1132 points, good for the No. 17 spot in the state after four events.

“The course gave us challenges with the uphill climbs and then rewarded us with the downhill sections,” Damms explained.

Combined, the trio earned another 1268 points for the High School team at the event, keeping the Claws in 13th place, ahead of Otsego Composite by 50 points.

Phineas Laput led the Middle School team with a 23rd place finish. His total time was 1:20:34 after two laps with a fastest lap time of 37:28.

The Claws have a quick turnaround this weekend, as they will be competing at Glimmerglass State Park in Cooperstown for the Championship event on Sunday.

“This was a new venue for the league this year,” Team Director Keith Stephenson said. “It proved to be a very challenging event with a little over 450 feet of elevation change per lap. Our kids are looking forward to the Championship event this weekend at Glimmerglass State Park in Cooperstown.”
