Dorothy A. Breen, a retired insurance secretary and lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at her home in Rock Hill surrounded by her family. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Rudolph Abeles and Pearl Bates Abeles, she was born August 29, 1930 in Rock Hill. She was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of almost 70 years, Robert W. Breen on April 12, 2020.

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved God and was deeply religious, being a life member of the United Methodist Church of Rock Hill. She volunteered at many church functions over the years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, was on the Missions Commission, and was the chairperson for the 100th Anniversary of the church. In 1991 she gave the gift of life, giving her daughter Debra one of her kidneys.

She is survived a son: Kevin A. Breen of Rock Hill; a daughter: Debra A. Felter and her husband Stephen of Rock Hill; a granddaughter: Stacy Marks of Goshen; her great-granddaughters: Megan and Lexi Marks of Goshen; a sister-in-law: Clarece Breen of Sacramento, CA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Anson R. Abeles, who was killed in action in World War II.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, May 19 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery.
