On Monday night the Yellowjackets hosted the Bears for a division match up, their first game of two against each other this season. After the game, Eldred’s coach Bill Furler said, “Great way to start the season since this was our first game. We have a big one coming up against Port Jervis. We got Trai his 1000 points at home which is awesome too.
We are kind of small this year which is something we’ll have to manage throughout the season but we’re a tough team and I’m excited for this year.” Fortunately for Eldred along with the 1000 points celebration, they were steaming ahead with a 84-22 home win.
Right out of the gate Eldred played at a higher level than Tri-Valley both defensively and offensively. The Yellowjackets were playing strong and aggressive in the paint and on defense while Tri-Valley played it safer with outside shooting. Eldred’s strategy was successful holding a 41-14 advantage at the half.
Eldred continued to dominate throughout the third quarter. With only one quarter left and Tri-Valley down by 37 points, the Bears’ fate was all but sealed. Eldred never let up the pressure, scoring another 28 points, their highest of any quarter. Fast break layups seemed to be their bread and butter. Tri-Valley tried to match Eldred’s pace but fell short in the end. Koen McGill and Trai Kaufmann were Eldred’s top scorers with 22 and 27 points respectively.
