ELDRED –– The Eldred Girls Soccer team hosted Port Jervis and Eldred’s new field was certainly a prime location. “It was our home opener after we’ve been on the road for 13 games straight and I’m glad to get a win tonight,” commented coach Kevin Moscatiello after the Yellowjackets were able to snag a 4-1 victory over Port.
At the start, it seemed like Eldred would have their work cut out for them. Both teams were driving down the field and getting shots off, however, both goalies were defending every shot.
The back and forth until about 15 minutes in. Eldred started to find a strong rhythm. The Yellowjackets were getting multiple steals and breakaways that culminated in Sydney Furler getting a long pass from midfield and sink into the corner of the goal.
Avery Moscatiello was also putting in work with multiple steals, breakaways and near miss goal shots. With 1 minute left in the first half, Moscatiello was able to score off a free kick to put Eldred up 2-0.
Eldred came into the second half ready to turn up the heat. Avery Moscatiello scored almost immediately to start the half. 10 minutes later Moscatiello scored again off of a stolen inbound from Port. To their credit Port continued to play hard and didn’t let up but for most of the second half they couldn’t penetrate into Eldred’s defense.
Port did manage to score once near the 10 minute mark but it was too late to catch up to Eldred’s lead. Eldred ended their regular season with a big win over Port!
