Eldred takes sole possession of 8-Man division lead

SULLIVAN COUNTY — After their gritty win over Ellenville last weekend, the Eldred Yellowjackets stayed red hot as they took down the defending 8-Man Champion Sullivan West Bulldogs on Saturday. Speeding out to an early first half lead provided Eldred with some cushion as Sullivan West began to close the gap in the second half. The game showed the prowess of two of the best 8-Man Football teams in Section 9, and will look to prepare them ahead of this weekend’s games.

Monticello played on Thursday night, while Livingston Manor and Fallsburg have this weekend off.

Friday Night Lights

   New Paltz at Liberty, 3:30pm

Liberty was on the road last weekend taking on an undefeated Marlboro squad. The Dukes’ defense proved to be too much as Liberty lost a close one 14-0. The Redhawks will head into this afternoon’s matchup against a New Paltz team with an identical 1-4 record. It’ll be a great opportunity for Liberty to get their first division victory of the season against a Port Jervis team coming off a tough loss against Port Jervis last weekend, dropping that game 56-13.

Eldred at Onteora, 3:30pm

The Yellowjackets have a chance to continue their undefeated season this afternoon as they make their way to Onteora. The 1-3 Eagles got their first win two weeks ago against Ticonderoga, but opened their season with back-to-back big losses against Sullivan West and Pawling. Last week, the Eagles lost a close 22-20 contest against Pine Plains. Eldred’s threat-heavy offense and opportunistic defense has kept opponents off-balance all season so far, and they will look to continue that on the road today.

Saturday Showdowns

Ticonderoga at Sullivan West, 2pm

The Bulldogs lost their first contest of the season last weekend against a tough Eldred Yellowjacket squad. They will have a great opportunity to bounce back at home this weekend as they host Ticonderoga. The Sentinels are off to a 1-4 start to the season, Scoring 112 points while allowing 173 so far. In their past two weeks they lost 29-6 against Onteora and 56-14 against Tri-Valley, both teams that Sullivan West defeated handily.

 Tri-Valley at Pawling, 7:15pm

The Bears are coming off two back-to-back big victories in their last two games, but will now have to square off against the powerhouse Pawling Tigers. A consistent playoff face, Pawling is off to another hot start this year at 5-0. The Tigers have allowed just 20 points this season so far, and their defense seems to be much improved over last year. Expect a battle under the lights for the Bears, who will no doubt look to give Pawling their first loss of the season.
