As we step into the vibrant summer season, the team at the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) are thrilled to share our recent engagements and upcoming events, just in time for Independence Day celebrations in July! 

Recent Events 

Throughout the past month, a big focus of the SCVA has been distributing our 2024 travel guides throughout the Sullivan Catskills area, ensuring locals and visitors alike have access to recommendations and a comprehensive guide for exploring our beautiful region. To commemorate the warm weather season, in collaboration with the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, we hosted the First Annual Kansas City BBQ Contest in the Sullivan Catskills at Walnut Mountain Park where approximately ten teams competed, showcasing their mouthwatering chicken and ribs for an approximate 1,500 to 2,000 attendees. In celebration of Pride Month, “Drag Me to the Catskills” took place for a fabulous weekend filled with pride, laughter, and self-expression with performances from iconic queens including who performed at locations throughout our region including Forestburgh Playhouse, Callicoon Hills Resort, The Eldred Preserve and Villa Roma! 

Looking Ahead in July 

As we approach Independence Day, we’re also gearing up for special events and activities to mark the occasion in styleEvents that will have you singing along, tapping your feet and enjoying the sweet summer heat, here’s a sneak peek at some of the highlights: 

• Bethel Woods Summer Concert Series (dates between July 5th-July 27th) 

• Location: Bethel Woods Center for the Arts 

• Details: A summer-long series of concerts at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival. July’s lineup includes big names like Alannis Morisette with Joan Jett, Jason Mraz, Hozier, and Luke Bryant.  

• Jimmy Buffet’s Escape to Margaritaville (July 2nd-14th) 

• Location: The Forestburgh Playhouse 

• Details: Kick off the summer season at the playhouse with this musical comedy featuring Jimmy Buffets’ most loved classics, bask in tropical vibes, and dance the night away to his legendary tunes of paradise. 

• Liberty’s Fourth of July Celebration (July 4th)  

• Location: Liberty Main St. 

• Details: Liberty will be hosting an all-day Independence Day celebration featuring a parade, live music, vendors and, of course, fireworks! 

• 4th of July Fireworks Guide 

• 7/4 at 9:15 pm in Liberty 

• 7/4 at 9 pm at Resorts World 

• 7/6 at Dusk in Narrowsburg 

• 7/6 at 9:45 pm in Fallsburg 

• Callicoon Country Fair (July 27th) 

• Location: Main Street, Callicoon 

• Details: Not only is this event the perfect venue to admire the Delaware River, but it will also be a day filled with live music, food, kids’ entertainment, games, local vendors and so much more!
