FALLSBURG- In their last matches of the season, the Fallsburg Comets and the Rondout Ganders met again. The teams met back in September where Fallsburg won that game in 3 sets to 1. The first set of the match was extremely competitive, both teams came out ready to play and it showed. Rondout would jump out to an early lead but not for long. Fallsburg would come back with a run of their own bringing the score to 10-5.

Rondout would be up to serve again and with a few quick errors by the home team they would quickly even the score at 10. Back and forth volleys was the story of the first set and the score was tied multiple times. The Comets would take the first set 25-19. This would be the closest set as the Comets would rally together in the 2nd and 3rd sets to dominate the rest of the game.

The Comet was on fire from the top of the second set forcing several errors from Rondout Valley. It was a stellar performance on the night from senior, Hannah Johnson with 10 kills from an arm I’ll nickname “The Cannon.” Along with senior, Brianna Noller, they put on a great defensive show at the net for the Comets with 6 blocks combined.

Despite the energy of the Comets, Rondout would still hang tough and make them work hard. After an 8-8 tie in the set Rondout would force the Comets to call a time out.

The Comets quickly bring the match to 13-9 but lose possession due to a service error. Rondout would come up to serve but to no avail. The Comets would control the rest of the set and win it 25-13.

Lack of communication and several missed opportunities would cost Rondout in the third set. But they would continue to push through. Sophomore, Brooke Martire of Rondout would come up to serve and score four straight points but it was quickly halted by the Comets defense. Fallsburg would easily win the third set 25-15 that included seven  aces from Jordyn Wall-Carty and 18 digs from Maya Ballard, the Fallsburg Comets showed great teamwork.

“To finish our regular season playing with as much energy and conviction as we did was a great feeling. Everything came together at the right time as the young ladies on the team have been working hard all season on playing to their full potential and they did just that tonight. The biggest improvement throughout the season for everyone has been finding their confidence, not just in each other, but in themselves as well,” Fallsburg Coach Amy Hobby says.

Fallsburg will have to wait until October 31 to find out their seeding for Sectionals. The Comets ended their regular season with a record of 8-11.

Rondout will miss sectionals this season, according to head Coach Brooke Graham. The Ganders end their season with a record of 3-10 but have two sophomores and seven juniors returning to the court next season.
