Frances Scott, a homemaker and long-time resident, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Care Center at Sunset Lake Nursing Home in Liberty, N.Y. She was 83.
Fran, as she was known by friends and family, was born on November 16, 1940 in New York City, and spent her youth on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She moved upstate to Yulan, N.Y. in 1976, and later settled in Fremont Center, N.Y. in 1978. When Fran first moved to the area, she called herself a “city person living in the country.” Over the years, she enjoyed being part of the Sullivan County community and eventually insisted she was a “country person from the city.”
She was proud to have served as an EMT in the Hankins Fire Department in the 1990s. As a member of the Fremont Bluebirds Ladies Club, she enjoyed volunteering her children to dress up as wounded soldiers or famous heroines in the Bluebirds float for the annual Fremont Center Memorial Day Parade. She was a longtime PTA member at Delaware Valley Central School, and organized annual book fairs for almost a decade. Fran was also an active member of St. Mary’s church in Obernberg, N.Y., for almost 40 years. Fran loved being around children more than anything, and she was responsible for bringing many into the world.
She had five kids, nine grandkids and seven great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to hold a baby. Even as dementia crept in during her final years, Fran would instantly perk up at the sight of a child or baby.
She is survived by her sister Theresa Dunning (George Dunning) and sister in-law Lorraine Levins; children Theresa Bolduc (Doc Bolduc), Cat Scott (Brock Lady), Jim Scott (Mary Frances Scott) and Francie Scott; grandchildren Laura Snedeker, Ryan Galbraith, Ashley Hermann (Rich Geoghan), Amanda Adams, Mercedes Aylward (Jordan Aylward), Lily Scott, Juliet Scott, Logan Scott and Grace Scott; great-grandchildren Bella Wagner, Allison Adams, Joey Adams, Elizabeth Hermann, Imogin Aylward, Killian Aylward and London Aylward; nieces Jeanine Aristy (Paul Aristy) and Sofia Aristy; nephews Thomas Levins (Viktoria Levins), Sawyer Levins and Marcus Aristy and close family friends Dee Antoniou and Georgia Politakis.
She was predeceased by her father, John J. Levins Sr., mother, Patrina Lievre, stepfather, Ralph Lievre, brothers John J. Levins Jr. and Thomas Levins, daughter Patricia Cullen, cousin Emil “Butchie” Biele, and close friends Joann Fleesack, Greg Fleesack, Dorothy Leach, and Anna Engdahl.
Fran’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Care Center at Sunset Lake nursing home for their devoted care, the dedicated nurses and doctors at Garnett Health Medical Center and Crystal Run Healthcare for the care they provided over the years, and the wonderful team of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan for helping make her final days easier.
