BRONX ––“I’ll take Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island too.” The Rogers and Hart tune could well become the theme song for the Furmans of Tri-Valley before the year is out. The Bronx was the site of the Manhattan College Invitational. Manhattan and Staten Island will be sites of indoor track (The Armory and Ocean Breeze). Take it to the bank: All three boroughs will know of the Furmans before all is said and done.

At the Manhattan College Invitational, Adam Furman placed seventh overall in the 4000-meter Eastern States Championship race in 12:39.60. That was out of 194 runners. In the merged result on the day, he was ninth. All of the T-V runners bested their times from a year ago. The Bears finished 16th out of 27 teams. The races on the day featured harriers from NY, PA, DE, KY, RI, FL, NJ, TN, VT, MA, CT, VA, MD, NC and even CA. Wow, what a field!

In the girls varsity B race, eighth grade phenom Anna Furman took fifth in the Varsity B race with a time of 15:42.50. There were 167 runners in the field. The race, part of the gauntlet the Bears are competing in as a run up to the OCIAA, Section IX and NYSPHSAA championships provided the best field to date of talent from up and down the Eastern seabord with even visitors from California entering the fray. Next up is the Burnt Hills Invitational, another extremely competitive race slated for this coming weekend.
