SLEEPY HOLLOW — Tri-Valley’s Van Furman and his family made their way to the Sleepy Hollow Hotel and Conference Center on Sunday afternoon for the USATF New York 9th Annual Awards Celebration and Class of 2023 Officials Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Van was awarded the 2023 Youth Cross Country High School Boys Athlete of the Year after winning the Class D State Championship in November.

Van’s older brother Adam earned the award last year after winning the Cross Country State Championship for the second consecutive year, twice as a team and once as an individual, and Van has picked up the torch with an individual championship of his own.

The accolades keep coming for Van and his family, as both he and his sister medaled over the winter at the Indoor Track State Championships as well.

As the pair gear up for the spring season, time will tell what awards are yet to come for the Furman family.
