John M. Sauchuk, Sr, (Pop) passed away of natural causes at home on August 24, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 91. John was one of five children born on April 6, 1932 to the late Michael and Elisabeth Sauchuk. John was a veteran of the Korean War who earned two bronze service stars. He retired after more than 40 years as Superintendent of the Catskill’s many golf courses and was a member of the Hudson Valley Golf Course Superintendent’s Association. One of John’s favorite pleasures in life was being at the little league ballfields with his family, umpiring behind home plate. In his spare time, he enjoyed making maple syrup with his family. One of his passions was mowing his yard to golf course perfection. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and traveling the world with his wife, Louise, his mother-in-law, Frieda Fisher, and his dear friends Alma and Russel Cross. John and Louise were also avid members of the Tri-Valley Squares Square Dancing Club. John is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Louise; three children John Jr. (Kathy), Cindy McKenna, and Wade; three grandchildren Maggie, Kane and Gregson; and two great-grandchildren Amelia and Orion. A Graveside service was held Monday, August 28, 2023 at 10:00AM at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery State Route 55, Grahamsville, NY. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Achieve Care Center and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County for the excellent care they provided.
