MONGAUP VALLEY –– In a make-up game originally scheduled during the month of May, L & B Tack club and Krupps contracting faced off in a one-sided affair. L & B took the win in a shortened match, by a score of 21 to 3.
L & B set the tone early with a big first inning where they scored 10 runs, overwhelming Krupp with a seemingly endless barrage of hits. The highlight of that half of the inning was Maria Jeltsch sliding into home base while neatly avoiding the tag.
Krupp just could not generate any offense. The combination of L & B’s pitching and good fielding, as shown by Jenna Merton’s hustling catch in the first, kept Krupp’s bats ice cold.
The L & B bats on the other hand were very hot. Mel Merton, who is Jenna’s cousin, led the way with 2 triples and had a 5RBI night. Tini Kaiser was also a big contributor, batting for a triple, a double and a single, while recording 4 RBI’s. L & B’s balance, both offensively and defensively, bode well for them in the coming playoffs.
