Marcia was born on December 17, 1933 in Staten Island, NY where she developed some lifelong friendships. She graduated from Wagner College with a Bachelor of Arts degree at a time when fewer women went to college. After college she moved to New York City as a statement of her independence, where she met her husband of 56 years, Alvin Salton, during a failed blind date on New Year’s Eve. After they married, they moved to Metuchen, NJ, where they lived and worked for over 40 years before retiring to their summer home in White Lake, NY.

Marcia is survived and loved by her children Jeffrey and Melissa Salton, Nancy and Mark Liddane, and Dr. Vicki Salton Davidson and sister-in-law Maureen Miller. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dale Salton, Reba Salton, Gabrielle Davidson Taylor (Nicholas), Blake Davidson, as well as her great-grandchildren Alexander and Holly Taylor and her many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband Alvin M. Salton, son-in-law Donald Davidson, brother Warren Miller and their dog, Bandit.

Marcia was always passionate about community service and served many organizations in Metuchen, including the PTA, League of Women Voters, the Metuchen Centennial Commission, and the Chamber of Commerce where she also served one term as president. She took a brief respite from volunteering before becoming active again in White Lake, serving as a Board Member and Treasurer of Temple Shalom in Monticello, and a member of the White Lake, NY chapter of the Lions Club including one term as President. She became an active writer of Poetry as a member of the Alchemy Poetry Club and worked to expand her French speaking skills with the local French Club.

From her kitchen window and deck at White Lake the sunrises arrived much too early for her, but she loved watching the sunsets and the eagles fly by, ideally while sipping champagne and listening to classical music, opera, or Broadway. She was well known by family members for always remembering birthdays and anniversaries with a card and insisted they be personally created and made, not store bought, right until the end of her life.

According to Marcia, life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “WOO HOO, what a ride!”

Special thanks for the support provided by her N.J. Oncology team led by Dr. Joseph Ho and her N.Y. Oncology team led by Dr. Manuel Perry. The family is especially grateful for the loving care Marcia received from the wonderful team at Brandywine, Serenade at Princeton during her stay there.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 3-7pm at Star of David Memorial Chapel of Princeton, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542. Burial will be private. Reception will be at the home of Jeff and Melissa Salton on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 2-6pm.
