Monticello Kiwanis Club awards nine scholarships

Nine $1,000 scholarships from the Monticello Kiwanis Club were awarded on June 10 to seniors at Monticello High School.

In tradition with this decades-old event, the students engaged in fruitful conversations about their upcoming academic pursuits and shared their dreams for their future careers.

Interim Principal Gary Furman commended the students for their hard work and expressed his utmost admiration for their meticulous efforts in getting to this point.

He also extended his heartfelt wishes for them to achieve great success in all of their future endeavors.

The seniors who were granted the scholarship are as follows:

  • Brielle DiCio
  • Adisyn Somers
  • Hanna Cavello
  • Zachary Roosa
  • Anthony Belgiovene
  • Alexandra Dietz
  • Xavean Mitchell
  • Christina Chakar
  • Jennifer Huerta

During the school’s awards ceremony held last Tuesday, a significant highlight was the presentation of scholarships also awarded by the Monticello Kiwanis Club.

“We are very grateful  for the Kiwanis Club and other community organizations and donors who recognize our students for their achievements,” said Superintendent  Matthew Evans. “This will help them greatly in all of their future endeavors.”

The club, operated entirely by volunteers, has been around for 78 years. They are committed to making a positive impact on youth and communities across the world.

Amongst its various charitable efforts, the club takes great pride in supporting local high school seniors with financial aid for their higher education aspirations. Additionally as they strive to help the community, they donate books to second graders, distribute food baskets to those in need, contribute toys during holiday seasons and provide essential items to children entering foster care.

“We are very pleased to recognize worthy MHS Seniors both for their scholastic achievements and for giving back to our community,” said Marvin Rappaport, the President of the Club.

“It renews our faith in the Monticello Central School District to produce scholars and leaders for the next generation.”
