Redhawks soar past Comets in 81–52 crosstown clash

LIBERTY – Liberty entered Friday night’s crosstown rivalry matchup with momentum; holding a record of 7–4, while Fallsburg came in hungry at 2–10, and that hunger showed early. With a packed gym and an energized crowd ready for bragging rights, the Comets brought passion from the opening tip. But once Liberty found its rhythm, the Redhawks took control.

Adrien Ferguson led all scorers with a sensational 30-point performance, knocking down six three-pointers and showcasing his full offensive arsenal with smooth pull-ups and crafty drives to the basket. Three Liberty players finished in double figures as the ‘hawks pulled away for a decisive 81–52 victory.

Zack Alvord added 18 points, drilling four threes of his own and played exceptionally well on both sides of the ball with his disruptive aggressive defense–blocking shots, picking steals, and forcing turnovers–while Tyleal Aubain chipped in 14 points with four long-range bombs. Down low, Joe Dibartolo made his presence felt defensively, using his 6’9” wingspan to alter shots and pile up blocks that shut down Fallsburg’s attack around the rim.

Fallsburg battled behind strong guard play. Xavier Berrios sparked the Comets’ offense and fast breaks, scoring 17 points with four three-pointers, while Aaron Mizerek impressed with his basketball IQ and shot-making, finishing with 11 points and two triples.

The game was tied at the end of the first quarter, but that would be as close as Fallsburg would get. Liberty’s speed, ball movement, and efficient shooting began to separate the Redhawks, who steadily widened the gap the rest of the way.

Fallsburg’s coach, Redmond, emphasized growth despite the loss.

“It’s all about progress,” he said. “We missed about 12 to 14 points around the rim. Instead of a 20-point halftime deficit, it could’ve been six. I thought we did a pretty good job shutting down their big guy, but they’ve got shooters — guys who can really shoot the rock. They’re a good team, and I enjoyed our effort.”

He specifically highlighted the performances of Berrios and Mizerek.

Liberty’s coach Robinson was pleased with the result, even while noting room for improvement.

“I thought it was a nice win. In the first half, I didn’t think we played very well, but we were up by 20,” he said. “I was happy to get some of our bench guys in. They don’t get a lot of playing time, but they work just as hard as our starters, and they deserve those minutes.”

The Redhawks now turn their attention to Eldred, whom they defeated on the road last week.

“They’re a good team,” the coach added. “It should be a good game.”
