Richard Wallace Coburn

Richard Wallace Coburn, nicknamed Dick, was interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on September 9th, 2024.

He is survived by his wife Agnes, son David Coburn and his daughter Diane Coburn Fulton and her husband Ralph Fulton. Son Daniel Coburn passed away on December 4th, 2023. He is also survived by grandson Matthew Coburn Fulton and his wife Grace and granddaughter Katherine Fulton-Trujillo and her husband Dennis as well as two great-grandchildren Ava Trujillo and Oliver Coburn Fulton.

Richard was a WWII Navy veteran. He served mainly in the Pacific aboard a Liberty Ship called the Jaguar. He enlisted at age 17 with his twin brother Robert (Bob) Coburn. Edwin (Wally) Coburn was a WWII Navy veteran, and his brother Harry (Mac) Coburn also served in the Navy. The four Coburn brothers were very proud of their service and marched together in many of the Memorial and Veterans Day parades held over the years in Callicoon.

Richard was born in New Jersey on September 14th, 1926. He spent a great deal of his youth with his brothers on the Delaware River and eventually settled in Callicoon. He worked in various businesses in Callicoon including the Ford Dealership, now Peck’s Market, and the Sullivan County Democrat as a printer. Later he became the owner of Coburn Real Estate in Callicoon.

Richard eventually retired and located in Tennessee. He passed away March 5, 2023.
