Steven I. Komorsky of Liberty passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Garnet Hospital in Middletown, NY. He was 71 years old and the son of the late Seymour and Sylvia Komorsky and was born on January 25, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY.

Steven graduated from Tri- Valley High School in 1971. After graduation, Steve had various jobs but became a Corrections Officer starting at Greenhaven Correctional Facility in 1979 and then to Eastern Correctional, Sullivan Correctional, and retiring as a Sergeant at Woodbourne Correctional Facility in 2011.

After retiring, Steve lived in Liberty and was truly a jack-of-all-trades and was so very skilled at all his undertakings. He was an excellent mechanic and collected several vehicles which he restored including a T-Bucket.

In addition to his mechanical skills, Steve was an excellent carpenter and woodworker and had his very own sawmill on his property with which he milled hardwood planks and slabs and made tables and benches, which were unusual and ornate.

Steve was an avid songwriter and owned and played multiple guitars. He loved the music of John Prine, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, and Chris Stapleton. He watched many “how to” YOU-TUBE videos and learned many crafts that way. He also built a pizza oven and loved to cook.  He came up with some strange, but delicious concoctions.

Steve is survived by his two long-time beautiful cats Smokey and Lulu, his sister Esta Jacob (Grahamsville), his brother Glenn Komorsky (Debbi) of Woodbourne, and brother Brian Rubenstein, and his wife Stacie and his two nieces Rachel and Rebecca of Plantation, FL.  Steven will be sorely missed by his family but will be in good company with family members who predeceased him. On the positive side, Steve is now at peace and is no longer suffering.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory can be made to The American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, or SPCA of Rock Hill.  A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home at 845-434-7363 or www.colonialbryantfuneralhome.com.
