4th anniversary Chris Pekny Motor Show sees success

LIVINGSTON MANOR  — The 4th Annual Christopher Pekny Memorial Motor Show took place at the Robin Hood Diner in Livingston Manor on Saturday, September 14. Pekny passed away suddenly in 2021, but his family and the community’s outpouring of support has allowed his memory and legacy to live on.

“The turnout for this event was wonderful,” said Jan Pekny, Christopher’s mother.

The event saw the initial registration of 60 motors, according to Jan, but many more came later on that added to the total.

Chick-E-Ribs closed their doors for two days to offer their services to the event. They also raised money for scholarships in Chris’ name to the school districts of Liberty and Livingston Manor.

Also present was Jan’s family offering sausage and peppers and high school students from Livingston Manor with tacos. Chris’ brother Michael was also present to offer a variety of frozen treats.

According to Jan, a “good amount” was raised in donations. The money raised by the motor show will be split into three ways.

Some will go to Jan’s grandson Chris, while the rest will be split between the two school districts. She also noted that they’re also hoping to add Sullivan BOCES to the list of benefited schools one day.

“People were so very kind and it was just a wonderful day,” said Jan. “This was just a good celebration of my son’s life.”

“It’s really nice that the sheriff’s department supports us. They were really friendly in letting kids sit in the cars for fun,” added Jan. “There are good people in this world.”
