Steven Mark Wasserman, 78, of Riverdale, New York, died August 22, 2022 in White Plains, New York after a long Illness.

Steve was born January 6, 1944 in Middletown, New York, the eldest of four sons, to Harry and Adelle Wasserman. After graduating from Fallsburg High School in 1961, he went on to attend The Citadel Military College of South Carolina.

After graduation he began a long and distinguished career in the New York City school system, where his grace, sense of humor and even temperament served him well and earned him the respect of students and colleagues alike.

Steve married the love of his life, Babette Karsh in 1968, and they had two children, Eric and Brooke. He was a loving and caring father who always put his family first and brought so much love and laughter to all of their lives.

Upon his retirement, Steve spent much time traveling with Babette and his family, which had grown to include three grandchildren. His love of fishing brought him back to the rivers and lakes of the Catskills, as well as Long Island Sound and the Hudson River. He was a lifelong New York sports fan, especially the Yankees, and enjoyed many trips to Yankee Stadium with friends and family. Wherever Steve went it was always with humor, a smile and a personality that made you feel like you were a lifelong friend.

Steve was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bob Wasserman. He is survived by his wife Babette of Riverdale, NY, son Dr. Eric Wasserman, (wife Laurie and son Marcus),of New Providence, NJ, daughter Brooke Naccarato, (husband Gary and sons Jack and Brandon), brothers Dan Wasserman of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Tom Wasserman (wife Janice), of Bethel, NY, along with beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

At the end of his life, the ravages of dementia stole much of the bright light that was Steve. If so inclined, a donation to a proper agency or organization might hopefully help find a cure, and help other families who are suffering.
