LAKE HUNTINGTON – Known for its strong emphasis on football, Sullivan West is emerging as an alpine skiing powerhouse this season. The men’s alpine ski had a strong performance in the slalom this past Tuesday at Mt. Peter in Warwick in a division crossover format surpassing not only ski teams in Division 1 but outpacing the bigger schools in Division 2; the Bulldogs posted faster combined times than Monroe-Woodbury, Cornwall, and Kingston. Tuesday night’s triumph was spearheaded by Ian Pammer followed by Micah Feinblatt, Brayden Levine, and Tyler Brockner.
The Bulldogs posted another first place finish in the men’s slalom race this past Thursday night at Holiday Mountain. The win was led by Aden Speer followed by Ian Pammer, Tyler Brockner, and Brayden Levine.
For teams to be ranked on performance, each school must have four athletes who post competitive combined times in a discipline.
For the first time in the history of the school, the Bulldogs also have a solid women’s team led by Allie Heller and backed by Hailey Norris, Carly Doyle, and Kyra Weston.
Coaches Lionel Billard and Bill Pammer have emphasized that the team is a long-term investment which has the potential to produce top ten individual results and team wins for the school over the next five years since most of the athletes are 7th and 8th graders who possess fundamental skills that will only become stronger over time.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to begin Sectionals this week at Hunter Mountain.
