Wreaths Across America reaches Roscoe

Posted

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to “Remember, Honor and Teach.” On Saturday, December 17, veterans and representatives of the various branches of service, as well as spectators and members of the community, gathered at the Westfield Flats Cemetery in Roscoe to place wreaths and recognize local veterans that were laid to rest.

This is the second year that Roscoe has participated in Wreaths Across America. This year, however, they added the Riverview Cemetery, which holds an additional 187 veterans.

“With the addition of Riverview Cemetery this year, we had to add more people to the committee to help,” said Valorie Rittendale, Roscoe’s Wreaths location coordinator. “It’s a great way for the community to remember those that have served.”

During the ceremony, Lou Setren sang The Star-Spangled Banner, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther addressed the audience and Mr. Patrick Killian played Taps to honor those in both the Westfield Flats and Riverview Cemeteries.

“We should all be proud to be part of National Wreaths Across America Day,” Rittendale said in her closing remarks.
