Tri-Valley gears up for NC trip against Monticello and Eldred

GRAHAMSVILLE – The Bears are looking to repeat as New York State Champions this season, and their preparation for the title defense shows. Competing in a slew of tough invitationals throughout the early part of the season has been integral to their formula for success.

Aside from their weekly meets against local schools, the Bears have traveled to Vernon-Verona-Sherill, which will be the location of this year’s state meet, as well as Bowdoin Park and Bear Mountain State Park. This weekend the Bears are in North Carolina to compete in the Great American Cross Country Festival at the Wake Med Athletic Complex in Cary.

To get loosened up before their Thursday morning flight, the Bears hosted Monticello and Eldred in a tri-meet on Wednesday afternoon.

A large crowd was in attendance as the Bears also recognized their four seniors, Dayne Wall, Vincent Mingo, Thomas Houghtaling and Adam Furman after the race.

Both Coach Chip Furman and TV Athletic Director Jason Closs spoke with high praise of the seniors, each of which finished in the top 11 in the race.

“When they first started running in modified, I started to have a feeling that this group was capable of accomplishing great things,” Coach Chip Furman said.

As far as Wedensday’s race goes, Tri-Valley boys defeated Monticello (22-38) and Eldred (15-50), while the Monticello girls defeated Tri-Valley (17-40).
