GRAHAMSVILLE — Fifteen schools visited the Iatoro Sports Complex on Saturday, May 4 to compete in the Tri-Valley Invitational. The event, which used to be held in early April, has been pushed later into the season in the hopes of better/more reliable weather.
The event, in an effort to expand, is looking to add an “elite” field next year, inviting some of the top athletes in the Tri-State area to compete.
They are also looking to have the invite sanctioned in other states so schools in neighboring states like PA, NJ and CT can attend.
The event was packed and included a live DJ, t-shirt sales and a concession stand.
“The invite takes months of planning and a lot of behind-the-scenes work,” Tri-Valley Coach Skylar Musa said. “But most importantly, it is the parents, families and friends that are there the day of to make sure everything runs smoothly. We cannot thank those individuals enough.”
Student-athletes from Tri-Valley also had a handful of standout performances as both their boys and girls teams went on to dominate the field of team scores.
Kane Poje finished first in the Shot Put, second in the Hammer and second in Discus. Kane is currently ranked 4th in the USA for all freshman boys in the Hammer Throw after his throw of 145-1.
Tri-Valley’s 4x800m Relay team, consisting of Ally Chevalier, Em Richardson, Amelia Mickelson and Anna Furman, finished with a time of 10:04. The group is currently the fourth-ranked in their class for the state meet.
Van Furman finished first in the 1600m in 4:28 and second in the 800m in 2:03.
Sophia Richardson won the Frosh 200m Dash and the Varsity 400m. She also took fourth in Triple Jump and High Jump.
Fallsburg’s Isaiah Young took first place in the 100m, 200m and 400m, and even had a personal record in both the 100 and 400 on Saturday. Also for the Comets, Donovan Hart took second place behind Young in both the 100m and 200m.
Fallsburg’s Adira-Virginia Greer-Padilla took first place in the Discus throw and finished second in the Hammer Throw.
Sullivan West’s Peter March had a PR as he took first in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 58.67. Dylan Lockwood had a first place finish in the Javelin Throw for Sullivan West as well.
In the girls’ 400m Hurdles, Katelynn Smith took first with a PR time of 1:16.16 for Sullivan West, and Gracyn Halloran set a PR in the 800, winning with a time of 2:27.14.
The event was full of standout performances and personal records, and there are plenty of individual results to check out as well.
