A disappointing tie for Manor, the first of their season

ROSCOE – A combined Livingston Manor and Roscoe girls soccer team hosted Seward in Roscoe last week for a chilly evening matchup. Manor was winning most of the game but Seward was able to scrape their way to a tie. “It was a disappointing tie since we were up by 2 almost the whole game but both teams played hard.” Credit to Seward they had a short bench and tough season but they came to fight,” commented Wildcats coach Joe Clarke.

In the first few minutes of the game Seward seemed to be maintaining the momentum and controlling the ball well. However, around the 30 minute mark the Wildcats turned up the heat and barely let Seward touch the ball for the rest of the half.

Manor’s Rebecca Gashinski and Kelsey Ryder had multiple close goal attempts including some 1v1s with Sewards goalie but Manor couldn’t seem to find the net. Finally, in the last 5 minutes of the first half Rebecca Gashinski of the Wildcats sunk a perfect kick over the head of Sewards goalie to put Manor up 1-0 going into halftime.

With Seward playing very hesitantly, Manor continued to dominate in the second half. The Wildcats were getting multiple close attempts yet again with Anastasia Niforatos almost sinking a header off a corner kick. Eventually Manor’s persistence paid off when Rebecca Gashinski hit a deep kick just past midfield that sailed into the goal to give them a 2-0 lead over Seward with 15 minutes left. But Seward was far from out of the game and responded with a drive of their own. Capitalizing on their first time in goal range in the entire second half they scored with 12 minutes left. With renewed energy Seward was able to pick up the pace and take back possession. An intense back and forth followed with Seward picking up another goal to make it 2-2 with 5 minutes left.

The rest of the game was an intense back and forth but unfortunately Manor wasn’t able to break the tie. Coach Clarke had this to say after the game, “We’ll be back at it tomorrow looking to beat Eldred in our next league game definitely looking forward to bringing home the section title this year.”
