UPSTATE NEW YORK –– During the Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ three-day weekend, the DEC provides a special youth deer season. Junior hunters between the ages of 12-15  are eligible to take one antlered or one antlerless dear with a firearm during this season according to the the E Regulations website.

In this issue of the Democrat alone, many photos have been shared from youth buck hunt activities. This is a very busy weekend all over New York with junior hunters participating from around the state. These photos were sent in by local residents. Tara Hirsch, shared two photos of her daughters shown below in The Beechwoods region of Delaware County. Alice Ferber shared a photo of her daughter, Alice after a hunt with her grandfather.

Junior hunters must be accompanied by an adult and both hunters must have a valid hunting license. For a list of participating counties and additional regulations be sure to visit the DEC website, dec.ny.gov, as season dates may vary and limits and restrictions  may apply.
