Bethel Woods introduces new way to stay

Posted

BETHEL — Imagine relaxing with your family around the campsite and looking up at the stars on a clear summer night. After dinner, you take a stroll to catch Melissa Etheridge or Alanis Morissette.

Or maybe after settling into your RV, you meet up with friends and pull up a lawn chair to watch Santana or the Outlaw Festival starring Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Or you just want to hang around your luxury glamping site and listen to Hozier or Phish.

Imagine camping, just the way you like it and listening to some of music’s top performers while relaxing on the same hallowed grounds of the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival.

Imagine no more.

Now you can take your concert experience to the next level with Camping at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts!

From now until early fall, guests can enjoy a variety of camping types on concert and festival days, all with stunning views of the Bethel Woods campus and the surrounding landscape of the original ground-breaking music event, Woodstock.

Whether you choose to stay within the Pavilion footprint by pitching your own tent, upgrade to glamping, or roll into the Best Road campground with your RV, you will be less than half a mile from the amphitheater stage and the award-winning Museum at Bethel Woods.

“The buzz is definitely picking up,” said Susan Russ, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. She adds when people start to consider cost, commuting and convenience, camping at Bethel is the perfect option.

“People are beginning to think about what time am I leaving for the show, where am I staying, who am I meeting up with, making all those close to show-date plans. The idea they can stay and camp here, not leave and still see a show is very appealing to a lot of folks.”

Past festivals like Mysteryland and last year’s Catbird gave officials at Bethel Woods a better understanding of how to enhance the camping and music-venue experience.

“Learned from the past that people do want some activities over at the campground. They want to see a show and have the convenience of camping here, but they want to enjoy the campground as well,” said Russ. Among the special opportunities for campers is the addition of special museum tours - Woodstock and More: Guided Docent tours, The Main Gate Tour, which goes to the original 1969 main gate and Hog Farm and a Behind-the-Scenes Tour which covers the monument, Bindy Bazaar and the latest discoveries on the site.

“I think once that first show and people see it and word gets out how close these camping sites are to the Pavilion stage people will want to have that unique experience. There’s only a couple of venues in the country that offer in-venue camping and none of them had camping from the 1969 Woodstock Festival,” said Russ.
