Dear Town of Liberty Supervisor Frank DeMayo and Town Council Members:
This letter confirms that the Parksville Priorities Committee (PPC) is making an official written complaint regarding the old Paramount Hotel (Tax Map #s 6.-1-28, 6.-1-27.1, and 6.-1-30). This site has been in severely unsafe condition for more than ten years and creates a hazard to the public.
In the event of a fire, it is the PPC’s opinion that this site will cause a hazard to our Liberty Fire Department and the residents of Parksville due to unknown environmental and structural contamination. The smoke and gases will affect Parksville’s air and surface water quality.
This site has become an illegal dumping ground and raises concern about storm water runoff into the Little Beaver Kill River from the Paramount Pond. It is fully accessible to vagrants and our youth setting up a very dangerous environment for an accident, or worse.
This should raise many concerns about the necessity of immediate action by Liberty Code Enforcement – it is clearly under building and fire code violations. A site survey for contamination should be done immediately by the NYS Department of Environmental Protection. An approved safety plan by the NYS Health and Labor Departments must be executed for its destruction and removal in a timely fashion. The site should be rendered off-limits to the public, and a security fence constructed until all buildings are removed.
The owners, Paramount Realty, located at 5600A Broadway, Bronx, NY 10463, must be held responsible for the cost of clean-up and destruction. It should neither be the responsibility of nor burden for the Town of Liberty and its taxpayers.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
