To the editor:
The Monticello School District is proposing a budget for this 2024-25 year in the amount of $100,277,426.
Yes, that’s over $100 million, while the last budget was for $97,886,695. Which means it is a raise of $2,390,731.
The Superintendent, who was making a total package of salary, medical insurance, and retirement funds in the total sum of $327,491.00 is getting a raise of $7,250.00 for a total of $334,746.00. That’s a total of $917.00 for each of the 365 days.
Now we have an Assistant Superintendent for Instruction getting a salary of $187,950 plus $53,346 for medical and retirement, for a total of $241,326.
Don’t leave out another Assistant Superintendent, this one for business, who is getting a salary of $191,175 plus $66,066, for medical + retirement, for a total of $257,246
How many assistants does the superintendent need???
The Budget only shows 1 more Principal (or Assistant Principal) making more than $169,000 in salary only, and that is $173,100, but does not reveal how much he/she is getting in medical and retirement. Nor does it show how many are making less than $169,000 per year, but plus for medical and retirement.
Now to the proposed Athletic Field which would have a 1,000-seat grandstand…with only 171 students in this year’s graduating class…
How many parents and friends come to athletic events??
And so on and on, for a grand total of $31,000,000. Such of which would be borrowed and paid back with interest.
Vote “NO” on both budget propositions. Let the Board of Education pass some of the fat!
