MONTICELLO — Both the boys and girls in Monticello are off to a hot start to the season with each boasting a 3-0 record. In their recent meet, the Monticello boys defeated Port Jervis 94-47 and the girls won 102-30.

The Monticello and Tri-Valley boys hit the links at Tarry Brae on Tuesday afternoon. They played the front nine and Tri-Valley took the match 261-278. Monticello’s Chase McFarland had the low score of the day with 40 on the Par-36 course, while Tri-Valley’s Misha Khodakovski shot a team-low 44.

Softball

Monticello had an early season matchup against Minisink on Monday afternoon. The Lady Panthers struggled to get their offense going in the 13-1 loss. Christina Chakar had a single and a run scored for Monticello in the loss.

The Lady RedHawks suffered their first loss of the season on Monday afternoon, dropping a matchup against Chester/Seward 25-0. Ayla Chalulsan had a strong pitching performance for Chester and had a grand slam in the win. Megan Schmidt and Angie Wheeler each had hits for the RedHawks in the loss.

The Lady Yellowjackets defeated Chapel Field 6-0 in a league contest on Monday afternoon. Chloe Warming tossed a complete game shutout for Eldred, giving up six hits and striking out eight.

At the plate, Olivia Gonzalez went 2-4 with a double, Sydney Furler went 1-4 with an RBI, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Lindsay Zgrodek went 1-3 with a double in the win.

Eldred followed up their win over Chapel Field with a non-league contest against Sullivan West. The Lady Bulldogs took the 8-3 victory. Nicole Reeves went 2-4 with three RBIs and Liz Reeves went 2-3 with two runs scored for Sullivan West. Sydney Furler went 3-3 with a double and Olivia Gonzalez went 2-3 with a double and an RBI for Eldred. 

Baseball

Liberty 2-1 (0-1) hosted Fallsburg on Monday afternoon for a non-league contest. Liberty earned their second win of the season behind a strong pitching effort by Justin Simon, who netted eight strikeouts as the RedHawks sped out to a 17-2 victory. David Philips went 2-3 with two singles and two runs scored, and Andrew McPhillips went 1-2 with three RBIs, including a 2-RBI single.

Sullivan West had a late offensive outburst to propel themselves past Tri-Valley on Monday afternoon. The Bears led 4-3 in the top of the 7th, but the Bulldogs put up eight runs in the frame and held on for an 11-4 victory. Evan Ebert went 4-5 with a double and four RBIs for Sullivan West, and Alec Hubert went 2-4 with three RBIs.

Livingston Manor defeated Tri-Valley 11-7 on Tuesday evening . Tri-Valley, like their game against Sullivan West, led 4-3 heading into the top of the 7th, but the Wildcats were able to put up eight runs. The Bears added three in the home half of the 7th inning but ultimately dropped the game.

Ben Johnston earned the win on the mound for Livingston Manor and James Kachelreiss took the loss for Tri-Valley. Kachelreiss went 2-4 at the plate with a double and Austin Swett went 3-5 with a double and three RBIs.

For Livingston Manor, Anthony Zamenick went 2-3 and Hunter Banks went 2-3 with four RBIs.
